No Super Sabado today

Sorry. A couple of reasons:

  1. We’ll be working on taxes all weekend. (This is what you call procrastination.)
  2. I haven’t read anybody’s blogs this week anyway.
  3. 🙁

I’m thinking of doing away with Super Sabado, anyway. Hubby doesn’t get it, which makes me wonder if anyone else does! And I’m not sure anyone reads it, especially after last week’s April Fool’s foolishness. Heh!

I originally started it because I enjoy MacManX’s Blogroll Dives and thought I’d do something similar. Just sharing a little link love, as it were.

So what do you think? Is commenting a better way to “give back” to your readers than something like Super Sabado? I’d like to hear your opinions.

And finally, I want to thank everyone for their thoughtful messages about Casey Dog. You are all very sweet and kind.

  1. Bonnie, I enjoy everything you write! You have one of the best blogs in the blogosphere in large part because of your enouragement of conversation by engaging in commenting on our comments and your Super Sabado blog roll. Super Sabado is a kick, but if you’re inspiration leads you elsewhere then let it.

On my part, I wouldn’t want you to worry at all about your April Fool’s prank. Dad-Who-Would-Be-Outlaw (nominal head of The Nuclear Family) got such a kick out of it, he’s decided we all need to pierce our belly buttons…never mind his beer gut, my formerly pregnant and fully-stretch-marked belly button, and my son’s utter mortification.

You gave us something to laugh about for months!

  2. I should add that each time I log onto the blogosphere, I ALWAYS start with yours! You are the funniest writer I know!

  3. I love Super Sabado…it’s a great way of recapping what I’ve missed during the week. And the April fools thing was great! But I’m still trying to convince the choir I lead to dress in goth for a day….can you imagine…no takers!! What a bunch of poop heads….did I say that…I mean…sweet, misguided, got-their-nickers-in-a-bunch souls! ROFLOL..

You just need a break…that’s understandable…Casey Dog was your heart! ((hugs))

  4. Please keep Super Sabado going, but do away with whatever you’re using to delay the posting. I understand the fact that you want to write and publish the post early and have it automatically appear after midnight, but the system has some flaws. As soon as you publish the post, WordPress will send pingbacks to all of the linked blog entries and trackbacks to any listed trackback URLs, even though the post is not set to appear until midnight. What happens next is that any blog receiving a pingback or trackback will visit your blog to confirm the legitimacy of the *back, but since it cannot find the originating entry (because it’s patiently waiting to appear), the blog(s) in question will delete the *back request. I see this in my server’s error log whenever you link to me in Super Sabado.

Both my Blogroll Dive and your Super Sabado are about networking via these *backs. These *backs are not spam, they’re just a nice way of saying “Hey, I linked to your post.” And, since your Super Sabado is drawing new attention to their blog, your *back will probably draw new attention to your blog. Basically, it’s a nice way to share traffic.

When I write my Blogroll Dives, I don’t use a time-delayed posting system. I begin the Blogroll Dive on Sunday or late Saturday night by composing it in a plain text editor, like Smultron. I then save the finished entry to my desktop and wait for time to fly by. Once the clock strikes midnight of the following Monday, I copy and paste the entry from Smultron to WordPress’ “Write” interface and publish the post. The reason why I publish most of my Blogroll Dives shortly after midnight is because I’m usually awake at that time. If I’m already asleep, I’ll publish it the following morning. Publishing your weekly posts at midnight is just a gimmick, not a requirement. Whether it’s midnight or noon, Super Sabado will always be Super Sabado, as long as it’s posted on a Saturday.

So, get rid of that automated system, establish an effective manual system, and let the networking flourish! ^_^

  5. Ack! Lose the Super Sabado? What will I do to start my weekend?

Every morning, this is the first blog I hit after booting up. Dawg gets daily updates from me about what you’ve found to share with us all. And how often I get sucked into a dastardly time sink you’ve found to share. LOL

The Super S has lead me to discover blogs I’d never have found on my own. That is a grand thing.

Take the time you need. I’ll still be lurking here, waiting for the next Super S, the trip to blog exploration and no doubt a giggle or two I hadn’t expected to start the weekend rush.

    May the taxes go smoothly.

    Long live Super Sabado!

  6. You don’t want me to come over there and smack you do you? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese keep Super Sabadoo, i read it and it makes my weekend, i always get a giggle out of it :o)

  7. Hi, guys! We’re halfway through taxes (PROCRASTINATION!) but I’m peeking in to see what the verdict is. So far it looks like Hubby: 0, Super Sabado: 5.

Elizabeth, you are too nice to me! I hope I don’t ever let you down.

You are 100% right, Bonnie C., they ARE a bunch of poopheads. And you’re right about me still feeling down about Casey. But when I looked at the time spent making up a Super Sabado, I just wondered if it would be better spent commenting on more blogs. I really enjoy following your commenting all over the Blogosphere. When I read you, half of it is reading your comments elsewhere.

James, I never prepublish my Super Sabados. (Although I did prepublish this one because I swore I’d stay off my blog on Saturday until I got my part of our taxes done.)

I think my trackbacks/pingbacks are just broken, period. (I’m using WP 2.0.2.) I haven’t successfully left a trackback in a while—even when I’m not prepublishing— unless it was through Haloscan.

Scratch that, they weren’t going to Haloscan, either.

The only posts I regularly prepublish are my Monday Morning Mojos and my Procrastination posts, but they rarely link to other blogs.

Dearest Kait, you always make me laugh with your stories of Queen Burrito and Two Toes and Boy and Girl. Sometimes I feel like we were separated at birth, except you’ve got a few more animals than we do! I think Dawg and Hubby would get along, though.

Michelle, oh, yes, please do come over here and smack me! You and A, and then we’ll go out for lunch at a real Mexican restaurant. No wait—we’ll go out to DINNER, so we can have margaritas.

  8. Dennie! You posted while I was responding! I’ve got your ebook, Dennie—I’m hoping to read it during Easter Break.

  9. Hey…April Fool’s day was last week. What do you mean no Super Sabado. I always love your comments…and your posts. I struggle with the time issue every week getting my post done, and I always find comfort that you too stick to the schedule to share your “take” with us. I love your excerpts and comments, but I will understand, but be an “unhappy” woman to lose Super Sabado.

    Ciao chica…have a great week.

    Teri

  10. Sorry about assuming that you were pre-publishing all the Super Sabados, but I couldn’t think of any other reason for the type of pingback failure that I was seeing. I got a test pingback from you earlier today about some sort of “.htaccess fix”, so let’s hope that it fixed this particular problem. ^_-
