Here is a picture of Bob, a Korean War veteran and my dad. He was a big influence in my life and I think about him almost every day. I wish my boys had a chance to know him.
So here’s to you, Dad, on Memorial Day.
Dad loved movies, so in his honor we saw Revenge of the Sith with my boys and Sissy and her hubby. It was a good movie but dark, as promised.
At one point Annakin Skywalker tells Obi Wan Kenobi: “you’re either with us or against us.” Even slowpokes like me can connect the dots to George Bush and the War on Terror.
So if Annakin Skywalker is George Bush, then Emperor Palpatine must be Cheney! You can really go a long way with this: Padme is Democracy! Obi Wan Kenobi is, um, George Bush Senior?
Sissy was very sympathetic to Annakin, feeling he could be forgiven for the error of his ways because it was his fear of losing Padme that pushed him to the Dark Side.
I disagreed and said I thought Annakin was just power hungry and unwilling to admit it to himself. He just used the excuse of protecting Padme to justify what he did.
I guess we can talk politics if we wrap the conversation up in movie talk.
