Laundry? Or WordPress? Hmmmm…

Got a lot done yesterday at the expense of the laundry, which now consists of two piles: the clean and unsorted towering on top of my dining room table, and the dirty, stinky boy stuff perfuming the laundry room.

  1. Figure out the “static page as home page” concept. Discussed at the WordPress forums here. BLEW OFF IN FAVOR OF OPTION NO. 2.
  2. …or figure out the “single category template as home page” concept. DONE, thanks to Ryan Boren’s plugin.
  3. Customize my error page. DONE. It took some time, though, because WordPress kept rewriting my .htaccess file. I reset the permissions again; we’ll see if that takes care of the problem.
  4. Replace tulip photo. DONE. I really like Dinny’s photos.
  5. Fine-tune the color theme to match the new photo. Eh, I’d say that’s DONE.
  6. Change icon colors. DONE, and may Photoshop Elements rot. Had to buy a book and that didn’t even help me figure that one out, because the Photoshop manual is totally useless. It was easier to just create new icons.
  7. Fix the sidebar fonts. DONE.

My new WordPress To Do List:

  1. Figure out pings and trackbacks. My brain is having a difficult time wrapping itself around the difference.
  2. Arrange the links the way I want them. Do I make them more bloglike? Or more standard site-like?
  3. Figure out RSS feeds. Perhaps it can replace my mailing list at Topica (which has suffered quite a bit from spam filtering)?
  4. Meet my writing deadline.
